How Often Should You Replace Your Mattress

Mattresses like everything else seem to just wear out.  The foam will flatten, or the springs or coils will get weak and it will just not offer the comfort and support that it used to offer.  It will sometimes become lumpy or sagging and will not offer you the smoothness or comfort that you need.  Getting a good night’s sleep is vital for you to be able to function and maintain your mental and physical health on a daily basis.  When your mattress starts to lose its support, it can affect your sleep level and your comfort.  It can make your wake up in the morning in pain or stiff and achy.  This may be just one simple sign that you might need to consider getting a new mattress.

Signs That You May Need to Replace Your Mattress

  • Sagging can occur
  • There is an indention where you normally sleep
  • Your mattress becomes lumpy in places
  • You wake up achy because your hips or shoulders are not getting support
  • Mattress is feeling uncomfortable
  • Allergies continue to get worse even after vacuuming the mattress
  • Weight gain or loss and you do not feel rested

How Long Should A Mattress Last

An average mattress should last between 6 and 10 years.  This being said, there are mattresses out there that offer a 25-year warranty with them.  There are many variables to answer this question.  One would be the quality of the mattress.  A more quality mattress that has been manufactured using quality materials will last longer than a mattress that has been made using cheaper materials and not made on a quality level.  Unfortunately, this will create quite a price difference for you when making your purchase.  Knowing how important that a good night’s sleep is for your overall health, makes many say that you can not skimp on price when you are purchasing your new mattress.

Does Your Mattress Really Affect Your Allergies?

When someone has allergies or breathing issues, your mattress can honestly make a huge difference.  Your mattress is normally porous and many times this will allow dust and dust mites and other various allergens to get inside of it.  Many of us are not really good about keeping our mattress vacuumed and aired out.  Sometimes moisture can also settle inside and create bacteria that can play havoc on a person’s allergies.  Open your windows and let in the fresh air and sunshine, this can help to keep the moisture out and the fresh air in.   If you notice that this could be a problem for you, try to clean your mattress by sprinkling it with baking soda and let set a minimum of 12 hours if you can.   Vacuum off your mattress making sure that all of the baking soda has been removed.  This could help to prolong your mattress replacement for a little while.

There are a few other things that you can do that will help to make the life of your mattress last a bit longer when you suffer with allergies.  You can add a mattress cover, many of them have a rubber or plastic quality and come with a zipper that you can take it off to wash.  The rubber cover will keep dirt, dust, dust mites and allergens from getting down into your mattress.  It will also keep spills and moisture from getting down into the mattress.  Then adding a mattress pad, maybe a nice heavy quilted one that will help to add the softness and comfort, will protect your mattress for a while.  With both of these being washable, it will help when someone has allergies or other breathing problems to keep your mattress fresh and clean.

Adding Weight to Your Mattress

When someone is heavier or there is more than one person sleeping on the mattress, the mattress seems to wear out and lose its support faster than if someone lighter is sleeping on the mattress by themselves.   It is important in this situation to make sure that your mattress is being flipped over every 3 to 6 months if your mattress is flippable.  Not all mattresses are flippable, such as a pillow top.  When your mattress can not be flipped, rotate it as to where you are trading places with the head and the foot.  This will help to prolong having the sinking area where your body lays most of the time.   When your mattress can not comfortably support both sleepers or one of you wake up hurting or achy, then it is probably time to get a new mattress.

Replacing Your Mattress

Sometimes no matter what you have tried, your mattress may just seem to be tired.  It may have just worn out.  It is time to replace it and add a fresh new feel back to your bed.  Adding a new mattress to your bed, can make a world of difference in the way you are sleeping and resting.  This can stop many of your stiff and achy pains when you first get up in the morning.  There are many quality mattresses that are available for purchase, that can help you feel like a new person by giving you the comfortable and supportive night sleep that you need.

Layla

The Layla is one of the top of the line mattresses that you can use to replace your old mattress.  This mattress is made from memory foam and is designed to be flippable.  This is like getting two mattresses in one, allowing you the softness and then you can flip it and enjoy a bit more firmness.  Taking a closer look:

Cover – This cover is made with a polyester blend and is soft and cozy.  It has been infused with a gel that helps with the temperature regulation on this mattress from the very top.

Comfort Layer 1 – This layer is designed with a 3-inch layer of memory foam that has been infused with copper.  This offers a slow response to pressure while allowing the sleeper to sink slowly into the soft foam feeling the body contouring that is offering support.  The copper infusion helps to offer an antimicrobial to keep the mattress from growing bacteria inside and cooling agents to help with temperature regulation for a more comfortable night’s sleep.

Transition Layer – This layer offers a 2-inch layer of high-density Poly foam.  This high-density poly foam helps to support the sleeper and the soft layer of memory foam above it to slowly lower the sleeper but to keep them from sinking too deeply down into the mattress.

Support Layer – This layer is made from another layer of firm high-density poly foam.  This offers the support of the layers above but also this time is not the final layer.  When the mattress is flipped also offers the firmness and support for the firmer side of this mattress.

Comfort Layer 2 – This layer is designed with a thin 1-inch layer of memory foam.  As the mattress gets flipped over, it offers the firmer side to the sleeper, but may not offer a lot of pressure relief on this side.

This mattress seems to offer a medium soft firmness on one side that works very well for side sleepers, but when it is flipped offers a firmness that would work well for stomach sleepers.  Both sides of this mattress seem to offer the support and pressure relief for the back sleeper.  A heavier sleeper on this mattress may sink down into the soft side a bit too much but could find great support on the firmer side.  The transfer of motion seems to be very stable on this bed so that for sleepers with a partner, one should not disturb the other as they are getting in and out of the bed or rolling over to reposition.

There are many top-quality mattresses that are available on the market and many wonderful choices for you to make.  A few more quality mattresses would be like the Saavata, Zenhaven, and the Purple.  These only name a few top of the line mattresses that you have to choose from.
