What is Keto Flu?

Keto flu which is also known as Carb flu is the sum of all the signs which are experienced by people who starts taking keto diet,  this flu seems to be similar like the other simple flu but it happens as a result of consuming keto diet as keto diet depends upon a specific keto diet food list which contains fewer carbs which tend to burn fats so ketones to produce energy instead of consuming glucose. Ketones are found as the by-product when keto diet starts breaking down the fats in the body, that’s why ketones become the major consumption fuel in the body of keto-consumer. The use of MCT oil in the keto diet helps to produce more ketones in the body. This burning of ketones to produce energy is called as KETOSIS.

Keto Flu Symptoms

There are some symptoms or signs of Keto Flu mention in the following list:

How to Avoid Keto Flu

There are some different and simple ways to get avoid keto flu

  • Cut off carbohydrates intake slowly(instead of leaving at once)
  • Electrolyte consumption in the daily diet
  • Drinking excess water or taking apple cider vinegar detox drink.

Cut off Carbohydrates:

A human body needs time to adapt for low carbs, so, remove carbohydrates day by day slowly and gradually instead of leaving at once.

First of all, slowly remove the carbs from your diet, then remove grains and at last remove fruity and starch-containing diet, this will help the human body to adjust the time to digest Keto- diet and hence Keto-flu.

Electrolyte Consumption in Daily Diet:

When somebody starts taking the Keto diet, he/she drain out water and electrolyte from his/body. This will cause keto flu.

So to avoid keto flu takes more electrolytes and to consume enough electrolytes you are needed to do the following:

  • Take magnesium syrups or supplements.
  • Add salt to your diet i.e mountain salt.
  • Take a mug of saltish soup.
  • Eat bone marrow or bone broth of (Halal) animals.
  • Intake potassium
  • Take mushrooms, green nuts, vegetables.

Drinking Excess Water: 

To avoid Dehydration in keto diet:

  • Drink a sufficient amount of water.
  • Take green herb tea.
  • Take soup with bone broth.
  • Stay hydrated to avoid keto flu.

Keto Flu Remedy and Keto Flu Cure

  1. Rest

Keto flu causes you to be very tired, you have to take complete bed rest as well as take light and gentle exercise to release an exhausted and drained situation. Reduce your social contacts and just try to sleep.

  1. Bone broth Soup

Soup with bone broth will help you to overcome the symptoms of flu.

  1. Take Sufficient Fat in Keto Diet

Take long-chain triglyceride fats i.e olive oil, it will help to reduce pain in the abdomen.

  1. Medication

Histamine blockers and proton pump inhibitors are the medicines for the cure of Keto-Flu.

  1. Excess Fiber Intake

Due to the keto diet, diarrhea and constipation also occur in Keto flu, to overcome this type of critical situation eat more fiber-containing diet and take more fiber-containing supplements.

It is necessary to control sugar level while taking keto diet, often sugar patient low down the level of sugar .so if a person having hypoglycemia he should visit the doctor before using the keto diet for getting any supplement which manages the sugar level. The doctor may give you insulin or any oral dosage to overcome this situation.

The patient should take a bath by adding Epsom salt or any essential oil to the cozy water; it will help to take a very deep and relaxing sleep.

  1. Wake Up Early in the Morning

To awake early is also a way to get adequate sleep at night. Avoid over day sleeping.

  1. Reduce Caffeine Intake

Caffeine reduces the time span of sleep. So take less caffeine drink during keto flu to complete a healthy sleep and to avoid irritation.

  1. Reduce Seeking Ambient Light.

Shut down your mobile phone to defend the ambient light, do not overuse the computer during these conditions, it will also help you at good sleep.
